Something Else

Shoutouts to Robin Thicke, new album "Something Else" drops tomorrow. His album is already on his Myspace though, check it out. I think if you liked his second album, The Evolution of Robin Thicke, you'll like this one. Dude makes that sweet, smooth music, this stuff puts me to sleep but in a good way. Grown-folk lullaby music right there haha.

I really haven't given my thoughts on an important subject that's been on the minds of people for like the past two weeks. I''ve been meaning to talk about it but just keep forgetting, and I really don't know why I forget. Millions of people, including myself, encounter this dilemma every day and for multiple instances a day.

I'm talking about that NEW FACEBOOK LAYOUT.

Now, unfortunately, a month is gonna go by and people are naturally going to become used to the new Facebook design so people will stop complaining. Shoot, I'm already used to it. BUT, getting used to it still doesn't mean that I like it, especially compared to the old design.

I remember when that Mini-Feed first came out and people were going bonkers cuz they didn't like it.

"Heyy I don't want people seeing my every move, who I become friends with, whose walls I write on, all the new pictures, the events I'm attending. CREEPY!"

Well, time passed and eventually, the Mini-Feed actually worked out for the better. It's all about e-fame and the Mini-Feed gave people the opportunity to boost their profile and thus, boost their e-fame. Nice.

And then Facebook Chat came out and people were against that but really, it hasn't been that bad either.

Anyway, this new layout though, it's just scattered and really busy. I don't see how anyone can support it! The old Facebook layout was simple. The idea of Facebook itself is already strong enough to make it last for 100,000 years. It's simple. The power of the site is in its concept - networking, NOT on how great or how flashy it looks. The original design worked because it was simple and gave people what they needed.

I mean, it's still really confusing. I'd be trying to search something but accidentally set my status because the boxes look the same. Combining the Wall and the Mini-Feed is wack; I have trouble discerning which is which when I'm scrolling.

Did they do this cuz people complained that there wasn't enough Wall space? %$#@? I'm sorry, I'm modest with my wall posts. We got kats who be averaging like 15 wall posts a day on their wall, cuz they be going back-and-forth when they SHOULD be using Facebook chat or AIM or something like that. Yeah, thanks a lot for that :-/

We all worry that Facebook is turning into Myspace and eventually will be a mirror image. It was a sad day when Facebook added applications, everybody had to take that L. And for all ya'll that like those applications and added like 20 of them to your profile - FORGET YA'LL. I'm probably never gonna check out ya profile anyway, cuz it takes like five minutes to load all those apps on your profile when you go to it **SMH**

So yeah, it's sad but it probably won't change. We can have hundreds of groups and petitions asking to bring back the old Facebook, but it just won't happen. People talk about how the new Facebook design gives more space for advertisements and ultimately, that's probably the defining reason why they changed layouts. It's all a business. Mark Zuckerburg or whatever your name is, I can't knock the hustle, do ya thang. But it's just unfortunate.

On another note, whenever I be walking around on campus and come across people looking to pass out flyers or $#@! like that, they don't stop me anymore. I guess my intimidation factor has gone up.

Like today, I was walking and passed by two environmentalists who were trying to get you to do a survey or something like that. I made eye contact with both of them, which 99.9% of the time, is the sign that makes them want to approach you. I looked them square in the eye and even slowed my pace a little, anticipating them to ask me something (yeah I slowed down but I wasn't gonna stop nonetheless. Just seems less rude than storming by, giving them the hand to the face and saying "Nah I don't have time...") but they never said a word. Intimidation factor +1 hahah

RANDOM THOUGHTS...

-Is it just me or am I seeing a lot more couples walking around on campus? Going back to that fiasco in class (see Sept. 16 post), just seems like I've been seeing people holding hands out on campus, having picnics on the grass, etc. Damn Cupid must be working a little late (or early?) this year haha.

-College football is gettin' crazy already! A lot of teams are pretenders. Hopefully Texas doesn't prove to be one of em. The Red River Shootout + the Missouri game + the Texas Tech game will all be difficult tests.

-Dallas Cowboys lose to the Redskins. What was that? It was painful to watch. Apparently, Terrell Owens went off about how he needs the ball more and now the media is trying to blow it up into "My teammates suck, I hate these guys, Romo sucks, get me out of here." Now while TO's comments were a little questionable, it's still NOT that big of a deal. The man wants to win.

-What's good with the economy right now? :-/

-Kanye West's new song "Love Lockdown" is interesting. It's not good. But it's not bad. It is addicting though, not cuz you like the song but cuz it just is. Like a Gwen Stefani song, I really don't like her stuff but I can't help myself but to listen to it. Nonetheless though, K. West is gonna be alright with his new album. A lot of his hardcore fans are gonna be expecting the Kanye West circa 2003, the College Dropout days but bottom line, those days are gone.

We see it with pretty much every artist, particularly in rap. They start off hungry then eventually, they get some success and the recent stuff just doesn't sound as good as their old stuff, when they were hungry. 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, heck, even Bow Wow was A LOT nicer when he was still "Lil" and before dude reached puberty haha.

-FRINGE on Fox is a helluva show!!! If you haven't seen it yet, get with it NOW before you fall too far behind. It is really interesting - it's about how these supernatural events are going on around the world but it's due to some scientific $#@! and the FBI is hiring this looney, old scientist, who did a lot of similar, relevant experiments back in the day, to find out what's behind these cases. Each episode is a different phenomenom but they should all tie in together with the big picture in the end. It's GOOD. By the same guy who created LOST so if you're a fan of that then you should check it out. Support it, Tuesday nights, don't let it get cancelled!

Alright I'm done tonight. Enjoy ya selves folks.
